Programme of accompanying persons

Programme

A well designed programme for the accompanying persons (who are not delegates in the Congress) will be organized during the days of the Congress for Wednesday, 28/6/2023 and Thursday, 29/6/2023. Through guided tours, the accompanying persons of EWRA2023 participants will have the opportunity to see important monuments, museums and other sites of Thessaloniki. The participation in the programme of accompanying persons costs 60 Euros (it is not included in the registration fee) including guided tours in English with experienced professional guide, entrance in important monuments and museums of Thessaloniki*. The interested accompanying persons should declare in advance their interest to the programme by sending an email to ewra2023@ewra.net or pasidirop@topo.auth.gr.

*The ticket includes the entrance for the Archeological Museum of Thessaloniki. The program is full, so if you wish to visit the museum you can do it on your free time. The validity of ticket is for 3 days.

Walking Tours of Thessaloniki-EWRA2023   28/6/23 – 29/6/23

Thessaloniki City tour Day 1
Wednesday, 28/6/2023 (duration 4 hours, 9:00-13:00)

Meeting point at Saint Dimitrios church (Agios Dimitrios church).  Visit the Byzantine church of St. Dimitrios and the crypts, Roman Forum, Aristotelous square, Bit bazaar, Modiano oldest indoor market and Kapani the largest open air market of Thessaloniki since 15th century. The tour will end up at the Ladadika district with the 87 historical buildings.

Thessaloniki City tour Day 2
Thursday, 29/6/2023 (duration 4 hours, 9:00-13:00)

Meeting point at Saint Sofia church (Agia Sofia church).  Visit the Byzantine church of St. Agia Sofia, the Complex of Caesar Galerius Valerius Maximianus:  Rotunda – Arch of Galerious – Apsidal hall – Palace building. Visit the Byzantine Museum of Thessaloniki, the most important museum of the Byzantine culture in the world. Then, you will stroll in Thessaloniki’s promenade where the statue of Alexander the Great is located, and the tour will end up to the city’s landmark, the White Tower.  Visit the White Tower.

Free time in Thessaloniki

At your free time, we propose to take the open air touristic red bus of “Sightseeing Thessaloniki” and have a panoramic tour at the Upper Cite (Ano Poli). Sites you may visit are the Byzantine Bath (best reserved bath of that period), the Osios David church (Latomou Monastery), the Vlatadon Monastery, the castle of Ano Poli (Eptapyrgio and the Tower of Trigoniou). All the monuments are preserved and protected by UNESCO. The site is quite impressive and the view to Thermaikos and Mount Olympos is breathtaking.
